Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre (SGBC) at IIT Madras invites applications for the post of Research Associates (RAs, 2 open positions) to join their Genomics and Spatial Omics team. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge genomics, spatial, and single-cell omics investigations across multiple research programs, including large-scale human brain mapping initiatives.
The RAs will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of neuroscientists, molecular biologists, computational scientists, engineers, and clinicians to generate high-quality atlas-scale datasets aimed at understanding human brain development, cellular organization, and the molecular basis of brain disorders. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn and contribute to the state-of-the-art genomics and spatial biology technologies within one of India's leading interdisciplinary neuroscience research environments.

1. Position 1: Research Associate, Genomics Wet Lab
2. Nature of the work:
The full-time, on-site position involves extensive hands-on laboratory work including tissue handling and processing, QC, nucleic acid extraction, NGS library preparation, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, optimization and troubleshooting of workflows, maintenance of lab records, and lab management in coordination with collaborating groups.
Beyond benchwork, the candidate will be actively involved in presenting research progress in regular lab meetings, journal clubs, preparing technical reports, providing inputs to data analysis and interpretation, and contributing to research publications.
3. Required Qualifications
Master's degree (M.Sc/M.Tech/M.S) in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience or a closely related discipline, with strong academic record.
4. Experience and skills:
a. Required: One year of hands-on experience in genomics or molecular biology wet-lab environment with solid understanding in one or more of the following areas:
-Handling and processing of human or animal samples for RNA analysis, RNA isolation and QC from tissues and cells, reverse transcription, gene expression quantification (qRT-PCR, ddPCR etc.), Microarrays or other hybridization-based detection, RNA ISH/FISH analysis, RNA-seq or any other RNA-based workflows.
b. Desirable (not mandatory): Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in one or more of the following domains:
-NGS library preparation and sequencing, RNA-seq (bulk, single-cell or spatial), and experience working in an academic research laboratory environment.

2. Nature of the work:
The full-time, on-site position involves data management and bioinformatic analysis of large scale NGS data, including whole-genome, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, building scalable pipelines, implementing advanced statistical methods, and optimization and troubleshooting of workflows. The candidate will be actively involved in collaborating closely with wet-lab, computational scientists, presenting research progress in regular lab meetings, journal clubs, preparing technical reports, providing inputs to data analysis and interpretation, and contributing to research publications.
3. Required Qualifications:
Master's degree (M.Sc/M.Tech/M.S) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biological Data Science or a closely related discipline with strong academic record.
4. Experience and skills:
a. Required: One year of hands-on experience in executing end-to-end NGS data analysis workflows preferably on human or other large genomes. Strong proficiency in working with Linux/Unix CLI, BASH, HPC environment, and expertise in one or more scripting languages such as R or Python. Familiarity with workflow managers like Nextflow or Snakemake and containerization tools like Conda, Docker or Singularity is highly preferred.
b. Desirable (not mandatory): Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in one or more
of the following domains: RNA-seq data analysis (bulk, single-cell or spatial), statistical analysis, algorithm/pipeline development, implementing AI/ML methods and experience working in an academic research laboratory environment.
